At Zen Yoga we are proud of our teachers. All of them have a depth and range in their teaching that you won’t find at your average gym yoga class. Expect to be challenged, stimulated and engaged in work that can change your world, physically and on every other level.

Julian Daizan Skinner
Having studied in Zen monasteries over many years, Daizan is a Zen master in the Rinzai tradition. He has been teaching meditation and yoga in London since he returned from Japan in 2007. His teachings emphasise the transformative power of mindfulness, melting away blocks and resistances so that we can enter life more fully and fearlessly.

Hogetsu Baerndal
Hogetsu combines her teaching and practice of Zen Yoga and meditation with more than twenty years of dance, physical training and healthy living. A much-exhibited career artist, Hogetsu endeavors to make everything she does a part of the creative process. Having successfuly managed an artists organisation abroad for many years, she is also joining the Zen Yoga team in a manager role.

Katrin Heuser
Movement has always been a significant part of Katrin’s life. She started ballet at six and continued to dance in one form or another for 24 years before taking up Pilates and yoga to help with her scoliosis. She soon discovered a wholeness to yoga that goes way beyond the stretching and which led her to teaching yoga and sharing her knowledge of working with the body. Her practice draws from all these experiences and is mostly influenced by the Sivananda tradition, the fluidity of dynamic Vinyasa and Vanda Scaravelli’s work with gravity and breath.

Gabriella Sancisi
A diplomate graduate of the British Wheel of Yoga, Gabriella has been studying yoga for twenty years and teaching for ten. Her teaching style emphasises calmness combined with strength and attention to postural detail. As well as teaching yoga professionally, Gabriella is an artist working out of her studio in Hackney and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally for many years.  In addition, she has a successful track record in business administration and as well as teaching, is joining the Zen Yoga team in an administrative role.

Shelley McCarten
Yoga for pregnancy is a wonderful way to help women create a sense of space in their bodies, and a state of peace in their journey towards birth and motherhood. Shelley’s classes mindfully combine gentle asana to create strength and openness within the body, breathing and relaxation practices to centre and calm the mind, and visualisation techniques to empower women on their individual pregnancy journey. Shelley believes it is such a rewarding experience and deep privilege to share yoga and its great benefits with her pregnancy students.

Alison Matthews
Alison trained in hatha and vinyasa flow yoga and believes that yoga can be practiced by everybody – whatever their age, shape and size, flexibility or level of physical fitness.  Her style is gentle and flowing, with emphasis on correct alignment and breathing, working within a persons’ physical ability and without being competitive. Alison is qualified as a teacher with the Yoga Alliance and the British Wheel of Yoga.  Following a successful career in TV and film, she now combines teaching yoga with working as a coach and trainer.
